School Travel Plans
Because most school selection is based on catchment areas, the average journey to school is about half a mile. Based on the average walking speed of a ten year old, this is a 12 minute walk (or an even quicker scooter or cycle trip). The more we can reduce the car-based school run, the more we will reduce local congestion and pollution, making it cleaner and safer for children to experience the benefits of a brisk morning and afternoon stroll.
MP Smarter Travel has a long history of working with councils and schools to equip children with the awareness and know-how to use sustainable and active modes for their journey to and from school.
